"Great Educator"

Theories in education are the fundamental backbone of an educator. Dewey’s theory of society playing a major factor in students’ lives still holds true today. Each pupil has been designated by society with the expectation to learn and that education is a major factor for becoming a productive member of society.  Dewey’s philosophy has been expanded to other religions, cultures, and ethnicities in America.

The passion to teach, the style of communication and the manner in which a teacher conducts themselves as an educator are all centered toward relationship building and knowing the differences in cultures, races, and gender sensitivity issues of students.  In my opinion it is unethical for educators to not self-educate the differences that make up their student body.  It is unwise to treat all students alike in today’s ever changing society.

Education in contemporary culture is still the key to success and lays the groundwork for college entry, chosen occupation, and monetary lifestyle of an individual.

Society and the media movement have a way of shaping young adults toward trends and styles.  It also has influenced how classrooms are taught and the way children learn.  Currently the trend of society is electronic communication and learning through a cellular phone.  Cell phones because of societal trends have made it nearly impossible to be without.  Dewey’s concept   of social influences becoming the “great educator” is currently being played out to its fullest.   Students can learn about current events, edit documents, and engage constantly with teachers through social media.

However, as an educator, I still think I have the skill of shaping techniques to influence my students and in many ways, I believe I do.   I teach my students communication skills that are needed for life, such as gaining admission to institutions of higher education and the professional workplace.  There have been many instances where my students gain acceptance and receive accolades based on the communication techniques that I have instilled or helped them shape and develop in my office.

A contemporary educator is one who has faith in the accumulated wisdom of the past. They believe that students attend school to learn how to participate in society.    A present day educator has the obligation, understanding, and knowledge to lead all students to their desired end point.  Educators because of changing demographics have to be able to adapt their chosen philosophies to the learners that they have.
